Building Innovation for a Sustainable Future
In a recent episode of Raising the Roof, we had the privilege of speaking with Ron Beattie, CEO and founder of Beattie Passive—an innovative construction company reshaping how we build and retrofit homes.
With a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, Beattie Passive is leading the way in low-carbon construction. The company recently secured additional growth funding to scale its impact further.
In our interview, Ron shares the company’s journey, its mission to fight climate change, and the bold solutions they’re bringing to the housing sector.
Reimagining Home Construction
Beattie Passive was born from a desire to rethink the traditional homebuilding process. Over a decade ago, Ron recognised the inefficiencies in relying on multiple trades to deliver high-performance buildings and set out to create a better way.
The company’s solution? Passive house construction—where energy use is reduced by up to 90% through continuous insulation and heat recovery ventilation. But energy efficiency is only one part of the story. Fire safety, acoustic performance, buildability, longevity, and carbon reduction are all core to Beattie Passive’s holistic approach.
Revolutionising Retrofit
Recognising the urgent need to decarbonise existing housing stock, Beattie Passive developed the BT Passive Tecos system—an innovative method of building a new, ultra-efficient structure around an existing one. The result? Up to 80% reduction in energy consumption, with minimal disruption to residents.
As Ron explains, “Traditional retrofit methods are no longer enough. We need radical solutions that truly meet the scale of the climate challenge.”
Tackling Housing Inequality
Beattie Passive’s impact goes beyond energy. The company is also addressing homelessness and affordable housing shortages by designing flexible, zero-carbon homes for councils and housing associations.
From emergency flats that can be relocated and repurposed, to long-term housing for vulnerable populations, their work helps local authorities invest in smarter, longer-lasting solutions.
Scaling for the Future
With growing demand and mounting pressure on the construction sector—from labour shortages to rising material costs—Beattie Passive is investing in a new approach: volumetric housing, built in its own factories.
By collaborating with local authorities and developers, they aim to open new production facilities capable of delivering 100–200 homes per site in a controlled, efficient environment. This not only reduces risk but ensures speed, quality, and sustainability at scale.
Overcoming Funding Challenges
Despite its innovation and strong purpose, Beattie Passive—like many SMEs—faced hurdles in raising growth capital. The company’s focus on IP protection and a careful growth trajectory led to a negative balance sheet, making financing more complex.
But the right investors recognised the bigger picture.
Fuse Capital’s Role
Fuse Capital supported Beattie Passive at a pivotal moment—bringing not just funding, but deep sector expertise and strategic alignment.
With Fuse Capital’s backing, Beattie Passive is now positioned to expand its factory footprint and scale its retrofit solutions across the UK and beyond.
A Vision for Sustainable Housing
Beattie Passive is redefining what’s possible in construction—through innovation, persistence, and partnership. Their commitment to energy efficiency, affordability, and climate action sets a bold example for the industry.
At Fuse Capital, we’re proud to support forward-thinking companies like Beattie Passive—helping them turn vision into impact.
